A CD-ROM (short for 'Compact Disc-Read Only Memory') drive is an |optical drive| which may read, but not write, data from optical discs. CD-ROM technology allows the storage of large amounts of information, typically around 500|MB| on a single disc. They are ideal for storage of large databases, such as encyclopedias or libraries, which do not require alteration of data.
